'BACK-SEAT BERNIE' writes again...!
Since he last contacted us to publish a bit of a fillip to you all during these 'Bloody Awful' times, our favourite passenger has got in touch again - as follows:-
'Hi Mark,
I have been thinking of you and you wonderful crew community in recent days as more news reports appear in relation to the current situation and the impact on the aviation industry.
There does, however, seem to me to be a rather different emphasis in the media coverage. I'm not reading of job losses, feelings of betrayal, radical changes to contracts or the well-being of displaced staff. I have seen reports of financial results, new management, refinancing arrangements and of course the big news.....will a Greggs sausage roll become the food of choice in the BOB selection?!!
I can't help thinking how many of those who have been so adversely affected could be feeling very neglected and under-valued right now. Its very often the case that at the time of great loss, people rally round and offer help and sympathy but this can very soon wane.
But as we face up to even more restrictions in the coming days, I would like your great community to know that they are not forgotten.
I was so grateful for the feedback from my previous message and knowing how a simple note can lift the spirits, I wanted to return the favour and offer words of support to stay strong and positive. I recently saw a little phrase that I thought was really encouraging. "The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you're made of, not the circumstances"
The BA team are made of sterner stuff. You can overcome what life throws at you and you have a fabulous support network in colleagues past and present. So thank you again! Here's to the next chapter in our lives whatever it may bring us, whether we are "retired", still flying or simply grounded. Even after the darkest night the sun rises again.
With very best wishes,
Paul De Brissac Bernard '
(aka 'Back-Seat Bernie') .
