BA149 - KUWAIT - 1990 ...

This has hit the headlines again this week after thirty years - a fact which may not have gone unnoticed by readers of our columns.

To reiterate, BA149, a 747 bound for Kuwait and Kuala Lumpur, arrived at the former airport on the same day and roughly the same time as the Iraqi invasion of that state.

The rest is history, but, some 60 BA crew (in addition to the pax) were 'on-station' at the time and taken hostage by Iraqi troops before being forcibly removed in stages to Baghdad and eventual repatriation to the UK.

The awful, immensely-traumatic and long-term results of this incarceration are now the subject of litigation in UK courts over our Government's involvement and/or responsibility in the whole 'event'.

Not much more can be said at this stage, but suffice it to say that the solicitors representing those involved have contacted us and asked that anyone who feels they should be involved in this case should contact them at their earliest convenience.

Due to the legal implications and the fact that BA, is by definition, also involved, it would be inappropriate for Crew Social or its members to have any involvement in this until the situation is resolved.

On that basis, the Admin team have decided to disallow commenting on this particular post.

   We hope you understand?

The contact is Jack Beeston at 'jack.beeston@mccue-law.com'.
