CALL ME A CYNIC, BUT.......
...
...but the latest announcement by IAG / BA of a 'shaving' of 12k jobs, stinks!
As an ex-TU person, it was (obviously) only a matter of time before the company looked for an excuse to re-vamp the airline, invoke the oft-used 're-apply for your own jobs' rule ... and then re-employ everyone on vastly-different terms and conditions to the ones they had previously been employed with.
This is NOT one of those subjects we've asked members to stay clear of, so let's start the ball rolling with your thoughts and comments from hereon in. We were set up for nostalgia - but also to help and advise each other ...so, if we can do that here, roll it on...

...and (bang on cue) here is the latest communique from Amy James(!):-
'From: Amy James, Head of IFCE (Acting)
To: All cabin crew
Dear colleague,
You will have seen Alex’s email last night where he outlined the proposal to begin a programme of widescale changes across BA.
The outlook for the aviation industry is so uncertain that short-term measures will not be enough. We have now reached a point where we need to take urgent and significant action and are proposing to reshape our cabin crew team. The longer we delay difficult decisions, the fewer options will be available to us.
Our proposals aim to save as many jobs as possible and secure a sustainable future for our business, built around the needs of our customers. These proposals include:
closing our three fleets; creating a single new cabin crew team at Heathrow,
operational flexibility, with all crew flying both short- and long-haul, and
a new, simplified onboard supervisory structure.
These proposals impact all Heathrow-based cabin crew on all fleets: all Cabin Service Directors, Customer Service Leaders, Pursers and Maincrew on Worldwide and Eurofleet; and all Customer Service Managers and Cabin Crew on Mixed Fleet.
We have now commenced a formal consultation process with your trade unions regarding a proposal to restructure and significantly reduce the size of our cabin crew team in line with our anticipated operational requirement.
Our priority now is to consult with your trade unions to explore ways in which we can avoid or reduce job losses where possible. My team and I will be meeting intensively with your TU representatives over the coming days and weeks, and we’ll be working hard to consider all possible options for you and our business.
Taking care of you
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of you for several years this is an extraordinarily difficult message for me to be sharing with you at what is already an uncertain time. Our industry is in the midst of a global crisis: these proposals are of no reflection of your contribution to our airline and customers over the course of your career.
I know that this situation will be concerning to you and those close to you. Please be considerate of what you say and do over the coming days and weeks, both in person and online. There is a wide range of confidential, free-of-charge wellbeing and support services available to you, so please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or go online.
Further information
We will shortly be sharing more information on ONE, including questions and answers about what the consultation process means.
I’ll be meeting with the trade unions and will send further updates via email as and when we have updates to share from consultation.
I hope that we’ll be able to build a sustainable team that brings together our very best people, and emerge from this crisis prepared for the future.
Thank you
Amy '
