STAFF TRAVEL ROLLOVER ...

Current staff will be aware that it was confirmed by Sean Doyle on 22nd December that, as a “thank you” to BA’s serving colleagues, their 2020 concessions will be rolled over to 2021. However, it was announced at the same time that this would not apply to former staff. As a member of the Former Staff Liaison Council, to say that there is currently some 'disquiet'(!) about this decision is possibly an understatement... and I'll communicate a decision on further course(s) of action via this medium. We should all bear in mind though that, as ST has always been guarded by BA as a privilege and not a contractual right, plus the fact that 'former staff' are just that, our choices may be limited.

I previously mentioned that, being on the FSLC (Former Staff Liaison Council), we were concerned to hear this news (despite obviously being pleased for current staff).

On that basis, as an initial response from us, this is what the Chair of the FSLC has sent to Sean Doyle this week :-

'Dear Mr. Doyle,

Your decision about the Petition submitted by Iain Webster concerning the 2020 Staff Travel concessions was copied to me as Chairman of the Former Staff Liaison Council (set up in conjunction with BA many years ago to consult on matters of mutual interest eg Staff Travel).

I forwarded it to the Council members and their collective response was one of extreme disappointment. While we applaud the decision to reward current staff, it will be seen by the Former Staff as a further diminution of the already downgraded/reduced Staff Travel introduced in 2009. It certainly does not recognise the efforts over many years that many former staff had contributed to making BA such a great airline.

It should be noted that while missing a single year of concessions does not materially impact someone who has generated many years of such concessions, this is not the case for those running towards their concession End Date. At the very least an extension to End Dates would have given such Former Staff the chance to avail themselves of ST.

We realise that at this time the efforts of you and your Management Team are obviously concentrated on preserving the company during the pandemic, but once BA and the country are on the road to recovery, we would welcome a constructive dialogue on this matter?

Thank you

Chris Hodgkinson
